Updated in 1/2018
Talma Ski in Sipoo, near Helsinki, is one of the few places in the Helsinki metropolitan area where you can enjoy the winter activities, even if there is no snow in your backyard.
The snowmaking system in Talma guarantees that there is snow - no matter what the weather is on winter time. LikeFinland Team visited Talma right after Christmas a year ago, and again in spring 2017. Now we asked Talma's Jani Pihlajaniemi, how the season 2017-2018 has started.
Talma has made much snow by snow blewers, and in Saturday Jan 27th 2018, also another snow park near the back slopes will be opened! In the last weeks Talma has already opened the most of its slopes and the snow park (in the front side) as well as Werneri Park for children!

When we visited in Talma a year ago at Christmas time, it was clear that many skiers had gone searching for the snowy slopes from the ski resorts of Lapland. We enjoyed the good slopes of Talma and its laid-back atmosphere. There was not too much traffic either in the parking lot, at the ski rental, lifts or in the restaurant. More of this!
The slope and the elevator capacity has been improved in this and last season.
Children's favorite place, Werneri Park
In Talma you can find winter activities for all ages and levels of skiers. Werneri Park is especially for the smaller ones with toboggan and snowtube hills, snowtube carousel and an adventure trail. A large tree top adventure park - built in summer 2016 - is not in use during the winter. Snowtube-rings, snow scoots, bobsleds and toboggas are freely available in Werneri Park. The hills are well maintained, whatever the weather.
Talma's season workers Mira and Niko. Mira told that seeing joy and smile on childrens' faces is the best reward you can get.
A couple of winters ago there was built an own adventure trail for children in the Werneri Park. There is also a warm little hut, where you can grill sausages and eat your own sandwiches or other snacks. Although Werneri Park is monitored, children under school age should not be left there alone.
Good to know! You can meet Werneri mascot on weekends at 11-14. Ticket prices of Werneri Park: Adults and children 4 years or over: 13 € / day, 8 € / after 16 pm, 40 € / family (4 people).
There are nowadays two user-friendly carpet lifts in Talma.
Skilled ski school
Talma has a popular ski school with about thirty active ski instructors, both men and women, young and more experienced.
We went to ask some tips on how to get started with snowboarding. Ski instructors reminded that if you are going to learn a new hobby by yourself, the interest may end without a good guidance.
In Talma there will be held dozens of elementary and advanced courses in skiing and snowboarding over the period.
Friendly service
It was nice to have a break at a restaurant with a friendly service and a cosy atmosphere. We ordered a pasta of the day, which tasted really good after an active day. Restaurant offers also pizza and burgers, as well as traditional café treats croissants and donuts.
One of the best parts of Talma is the fact that it is located close to Helsinki, and that there's fun for the whole family. The slopes are suitable for all ages. A good thing is that Talma has fun things to do also for those children that are not skiing enthusiasts. A Snowtube hill at Werneri Park is a great experience for young and old!

Enontekiö - The true Lapland
View from Saana fell. Photo: Playa del Kilpis Tours
Enontekiö is located in Lapland in the outermost northwest tip of Finland. The bulge between Sweden and Norway is called Käsivarsi, the Arm of Finland.
Enontekiö's spectacular scenery, hiking trails and the fish-rich waters are the things of which you've probably heard people talking about. Also the Finland's highest fell, Halti is located in Enontekiö. The landscapes differ significantly from the rest of Lapland.
The mountaineous scenery and its sparse vegetation makes the northern Enontekiö a special and memorable place to visit. The northern part of Enontekiö is the only place in Finland that belongs to the Scandinavian mountain range. All the more than 1,000 meters above sea level rising fells are located in Enontekiö.
Photo: Playa del Kilpis Tours
In Enontekiö each season is special: in the summer sun can be enjoyed almost two months day and night, while in the winter during the polar night time the sun does not rise at all (30.11.-12.1.). In the autumn you can enjoy the wonderful autumn colors and in springtime Enontekiö offers the best skiing conditions in Finland with lots of snow and sun.
Hiker's paradise
LikeFinland -team visited Enontekiö in July, and experienced the popular Hetta-Pallas hiking trail.
If Enontekiö would be described only by a few words, I think it would be a hiker's paradise because of its wide range of hiking trails for hikers in all levels. Enontekiö offers perfect conditions also for fishing, canoeing and mountain biking.
Photo: Playa del Kilpis Tours
Did you know that Enontekiö has ...
... the highest point of Finnish highways?
From the south towards Kilpisjärvi, while driving, you will meet the highest point of Finnish highways, Muotkatakka (565.8 m). Muotkatakka is located approx. 12 km to the south from Kilpisjärvi.
... Finnish Niagara waterfalls, Pihtsusköngäs?
However, the waterfall has not been made easy to see. The distance of 17 m high waterfall is approx. 45 km on foot.
... a place where you can walk at the same time in Finland, Sweden and Norway?
A day trip to the Three Nations’ Border Point is worth to visit. It is located in Malla Strict Nature Reserve. The distance from Kilpisjärvi to milestone is approx. 11 km.
... the longest stairs of Finland?
Stairs are located in the hiking center Kilpisjärvi Saana take the route (approx. 4 km / direction) along the way. Count the steps and how many of them you can go without stopping.

We went to spend a nice weekend in a cosy Holiday Centre Revontuli in Hankasalmi, Central Finland. We had visited Revontuli once before. We wanted to come for a visit again because of its tranquility, friendly service, cozy cabins, good food and many activities.
What is Revontuli?
Over the years Revontuli has grown and developed into a good quality holiday destination with its golf fields and restaurants, not to forget the surrounding nature and the beautiful lake scenery.
Revontuli (the northern lights in english) was named after a northern lights radar station which was built close by.
Nice cottage accommodation
Revontuli has traditional hotel rooms and cottages of different sizes and levels. We had a cottage with sauna and two separate bedrooms.
Activities
Revontuli is an ideal holiday destination especially for golfers and for disc golf players.
There are two nice jogging routes, Bear Loop 7 km and Revontuli Run 11 km and also a 3-kilometer-long nature trail with bird watching towers.
In Revontuli you can rent canoes and rowing boats, play tennis, volleyball, petanque and a traditional finnish game called mölkky.
Southern Konnevesi National Park and the slopes of Häkärinteet nearby on winter time are worth visiting.
Frisbeegolf, minigolf and footgolf
Because of the warm and sunny weather we decided to play frisbee-, mini- and footgolf with children when dad was enjoying his day by playing golf.
In Revontuli there are two frisbeegolf tracks. The easier one, that goes around the Revontuli area, is for the families and a more challenging track on the other side of the highway 9 is for the active players.
Nature trip in the Southern Konnevesi National Park
After an active morning and a delicious lunch in Revontuli, we headed to the Southern Konnevesi National Park. It takes less than one hour to go there by car. Etelä-Konnevesi National Park was founded in 2014 and it is located in the municipalities of Konnevesi and Rautalampi, on the border of the former provinces of Central Finland and Northern Savo.
The Kalajan kierros Trail (4.6 km) was recommended to us. The trail runs from the Kalaja parking area, goes round the pond Vuori-Kalaja to the top of Kalajanvuori hill, comes down to the lean-to-shelter of Vuori-Kalaja and returns to the parking area. The trail is marked with yellow paint.
Pond Vuori-Kalaja can also be accessed by wheelchair with assistance. The trail is challenging for children due to steep terrain.
We were lucky on behalf of the weather. The nature was so beautiful in the evening. This time the whole family was inspired to take photos along the trail. The sun was shining and the water surface was mirror calm.

In Revontuli there is a whole sauna world with smoke sauna, tent sauna etc. We enjoyed the steams of traditional sauna and went for a swim in Iso-Virmasjärvi lake.
After the sauna we went bowling and had a dinner in Revontuli Bowling Diner. On weeknight there were plenty of space for bowling. Although the children had not yet much experience in bowling , the competition was extremely hard.
Bowling and eating tasty burgers in nice American style restaurant was a good way to end an active day in Revontuli. Children’s meals were served in stylish cardboard cars, which was a positive surprise, at least for our 5-year old boy.
Much still remained to experience.
